Met Department issues heat wave warning as 5 die of heat stroke in Maharashtra

At least five people died of heat stroke in Maharashtra on Thursday as temperatures across the country reached extreme levels leading to heat wave-like conditions in several states. A heat wave warning has been issued by the Met Department in several parts of Maharashtra for 48 hours. The Met Department in Telangana has said that every district of the state will witness a temperature of over 40 degrees for the next two days. The Rayalaseema region in Andhra Pradesh will also see temperatures soaring over 40 degrees for 48 hours. This comes after a town named Bhira in the Raigad district of Maharashtra recorded a temperature of 46.5 degrees on Wednesday. Such extreme temperatures are usually unheard of in March. However, officials from the Indian Meteorogical Department said that they would like to verify the findings as they think it may not be accurate. Egyptian Man tortured wife for 3days for opening fake Facebook accounts

An Egyptian man tortured his wife and locked her up after discovering that she set up a Facebook page after he refused to create an account for her, Arabiya reports. According to Egyptian security forces, Asmaa Samir was tortured by her husband Mustafa Raafat who tied her with ropes and locked her up in their house for three days while depriving her of food and drink and torturing her using sharp tools. During the interrogation, Raafat said his wife opened three accounts using fake female names, as she wanted to see if he would cheat on her, adding that he punished her by beating her up. He denied reports that he had starved her.

Man buries his newborn daughter alive in India

Indian police said on Wednesday that they have taken into custody, a man who allegedly buried his newborn daughter alive because he wanted a male child. The baby was reportedly rescued by local villagers after they spotted her feet sticking up from a shallow pit in a farmland within the Jajpur district of the eastern state of Odisha. The father of the child, Ramesh Chandra, was however, arrested by the police for attempted manslaughter. The 35-year-old part-time taxi driver allegedly took the baby from her mother soon after she was born on Saturday. A police officer, Jyoti Prakash Pande, told reporters that, “They were unable to explain about the missing child after we scanned the locality for expecting mothers. Pande added that Chandra while been questioned admitted burying the baby, saying he was too poor to raise a daughter. Hotel in Kolkata kills two in fire outbreak

A major fire broke out at a city hotel in Kolkata early on Thursday killing two persons and injuring at least six others, a fire brigade official said. The fire broke out on the ground floor of Golden Park Hotel at around 2.55 am. the official said. 'We managed to rescue 31 people from the hotel. Six of them who were injured were shifted to the SSKM Hospital,' he added. As many as 10 fire tenders were pressed into service that worked for two hours to control the blaze. 'The situation is under control. The reason of the fire can be comprehended only after forensic investigations,' he added.

Mahakaushal Express (8-coaches) derail in U.P leaving 22 people injured

Eight coaches of the Jabalpur-Hazrat Nizamuddin Mahakaushal Express were derailed in Uttar Pradesh in the early hours of Thursday, March 30, resulting in at least 22 people being injured. Given the manner of how the terror angle has come up in derailment cases in India in recent times, the police are reportedly looking into the matter. Initial reports from the spot said that the derailment occurred at 2:07 am near the Mahoba station in Uttar Pradesh. Eight coaches of the train — which was bound for Delhi — went off the tracks, according to the chief public relations officer (CPRO) of North Central Railway. A 19-year-old student at the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi (IIT) allegedly jumped off from the fourth floor of Vidhyanchal Hostel inside the Delhi campus, on Wednesday morning. He sustained multiple fractures in the fall and is battling for life at AIIMS. This came a day after IIT was in the spotlight over a former professor confining himself along with his wife to his house in Kanpur. Nitish Kumar Purti, an Engineering Physics student had come to IIT last year. Police said that he was depressed as he was forced to take up the course and was unable to cope with the pressure. It was around 4am, when Purti’s roommate Abhinandan asked him to accompany him downstairs for a walk. Purti reportedly asked him to call a security guard for some help. When Abhinandan went downstairs, Purti reportedly went to the balcony on the fourth floor and jumped. Abhinandan heard a loud thud and found Purti on the ground, bleeding profusely. The Noida office of a mobile phone company witnessed high drama on Tuesday after an employee of the company, a Chinese national, tore and threw an Indian flag in a dustbin. The incident, reported from the Sector 63 Noida office of mobile phone company Oppo, triggered protests by hundreds of employee, prompting the police to step in. The Phase-3 police registered a case against the Chinese national, who works as a production manager in the company, on a complaint filed by three employees later. A probe has been launched. Senior superintendent of police, Gautam Budh Nagar, Dharmendra Singh said, “A case of disrespecting the national flag has been filed on the basis of a complaint by three company employees. A young Kenyan woman said she was assaulted by a group of unidentified people in Greater Noida on Wednesday, the latest report of violence against Africans from the region this week. The woman, identified by police as Maria Burendi, alleged she was beaten and kicked in the abdomen without any provocation while she was travelling in a cab in Greater Noida’s Kasna locality. Details of the alleged attack are awaited. The woman, said to be in her 20s and a student of the Noida International University, was taken to a hospital for a medical examination where doctors confirmed the possibility of an assault, with abrasions on her hands. Dr Sanil Kapoor, superintendent of Greater Noida’s Kailash hospital, told Hindustan Times she was discharged after first aid. The attack is the third against Africans in Greater Noida since Sunday. The Greater Noida police has booked over 1000 people and arrested five in connection with some Nigerian nationals being thrashed by locals in the city following the death of a teenager. Locals claimed that Manish Khari, 19, died due to drug overdose and held a few Nigerians responsible for the incident. An FIR has been lodged against nine people and around 300 have been booked for culpable homicide. While 5 have been arrested, 54 accused have been identified from video clips of the incident. Four Nigerians were beaten up by a mob on Monday at a mall in Greater Noida following the news of Khari's death. Locals claimed to have seen him last with a group of Nigerians. Local residents allege Khari was kidnapped and forcibly given drugs by some Nigerian nationals. Italdesign and aircraft manufacturer Airbus are working on a futuristic car whose upper body can be airlifted by a drone and flown above traffic congestion, sources said. Italdesign will debut a concept for the vehicle at the Geneva auto show on Tuesday, according to people familiar with the matter. The concept will be for a two-stage car that would cruise city streets. The passenger would sit in a capsule on top of a self-driving chassis. If the vehicle hits traffic congestion, a large drone measuring roughly 5 meters by 5 meters would pick up the capsule and fly it to a destination. Italdesign first developed a car with an upper body and chassis that could separate with the Capsula concept unveiled at the 1982 Turin auto show.
